Continuing a period of years of breakneck growth and advancement into the tech sector, social media giant Facebook will be developing its own operating system, media reports revealed on Thursday.
The company's vice president of hardware, Andrew Bosworth, told The Information that moving forward the company does not want to have to rely on third parties to meet its tech needs.
"We really want to make sure the next generation has space for us," Bosworth said. "We don't think we can trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that's the case. And so we're gonna do it ourselves."
One of the primary fruits of an in-house operating system, according to one company official, would be easy integration between the OS and Facebook's upcoming "augmented reality" glasses. The company says it plans to "merge the physical and digital worlds."
