Facebook announced on Tuesday that it would be giving all of its employees a $1,000 bonus, an effort to help aid both Facebook's workers and the broader economy during the economically crippling coronavirus pandemic.

The company employs roughly 45,000 full-time workers and thousands more independent contractors, most of whom are currently working remotely to help halt the spread of the disease. Only full-time Facebook employees are currently scheduled to get the bonus.

Facebook on Tuesday also announced a $100 million initiative to help small businesses struggling during the countless shutdowns, quarantines, and curfews that have arisen in the wake of COVID-19. The company said up to 30,000 eligible small businesses will receive the funds.

? Facebook shares have dropped 28% since the pandemic became widespread in the United States.
