Facing pandemic, President Trump declares Sunday a National Day of Prayer

Hours after declaring a national emergency Friday due to the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus and the mass of closings, cancellations, and panic it has spawned, President Trump took the historically infrequent step of recommending a National Day of Prayer for Sunday, March 15th.

"It is my great honor to declare Sunday, March 15th as a National Day of Prayer," Trump wrote on Twitter. "We are a Country that, throughout our history, has looked to God for protection and strength in times like these. No matter where you may be, I encourage you to turn towards prayer in an act of faith. Together, we will easily PREVAIL!"

Sunday's Day of Prayer specifically designated for the coronavirus pandemic is separate from the annual National Day of Prayer scheduled for May 7.
