Fans of former MMA fighter and actress Gina Carano have begun a petition to have her rehired after Disney fired her last week.

"The Mandalorian" star was let go last week over conservative viewpoints she regularly shared on social media – content that had drawn the regular ire of some fans for months. Disney said that the decision was made over "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities," calling it "abhorrent and unacceptable."

A new Change.org petition calling for Carano's reinstatement has gathered more than 20,000 signatures in several days.

"To the fans of 'The Mandalorian,' please. Speak out," said the petition. "Disney needs to stop the trend of firing actors for controversial tweets, and just keep treating the fans to a great show. Rehire Gina Carano. Firing her isn't justice."

Carano, however, might not be interested in returning to the Star Wars franchise should Disney extend the offer. The actress made the announcement last week that conservative outlet The Daily Wire has offered her a role as a producer in its new entertainment division.

"The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true," said Carano. "I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can't cancel us if we don't let them."

The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro confirmed the news, saying the outlet "could not be more excited" to work with Carano.

"We're eager to bring Gina's talent to Americans who love her, and we're just as eager to show Hollywood that if they want to keep cancelling those who think differently, they'll just be helping us build the X-wing to take down their Death Star," said Shapiro.
