Fauci says there are "glimmers" that lockdowns, economic shutdowns are working

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Tuesday that the United States is beginning to see "glimmers" that the rolling series of statewide lockdowns and economic shutdowns are bringing the coronavirus pandemic under some degree of control.

Stressing that he "[didn't] want to put too much stock on it," Fauci told CNN that the increase in cases may be starting to "flatten out," though the United States was not at a "turnaround" point yet.

Three-quarters of American citizens are currently under some form of lockdown, with governors and other state-level politicians shutting down local economies and ordering people to remain in their homes. Some economists have estimated that this could result in an unemployment rate of 32%.
