A female prisoner being held in Illinois' largest women's prison claims she was raped by a biological male inmate who identifies as transgender and was allowed to transfer to the women's prison, according to a federal lawsuit filed last week.

The unidentified prisoner at the Logan Correctional Center in central Illinois claims she was sexually assaulted in June 2019 by Janiah Monroe, a transgender inmate who requested and was granted a transfer from a men's facility to the women's facility.

Monroe, who is a biological male who identifies as female yet still has male genitalia, moved into the plaintiff's unit on June 18, 2019 and immediately "expressed an interest" in her, the new lawsuit said.

That same day, the plaintiff reported that she was raped by Monroe but was pressured by a supervisory officer into denying the attack occurred and subsequently disciplined for filing a "false" complaint.
