Failed Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum was reportedly present during a crystal meth overdose at a Miami Beach hotel with two other men, with the politician himself strongly asserting that he has never used the drug.
Jay O'Brien, a reporter with West Palm Beach CBS 12, said on Twitter that, per a local police report, Gillum was found by police in a hotel room with crystal meth early Friday morning and was "unable to communicate" due to heavy inebriation.
"Inside of the hotel room, officers observed in plain sight three small clear plastic baggies containing suspected crystal meth on both the bed and floor," according to the report.
Gillum said in a statement on Friday that first responders were there to assist "one of [his] friends," and that while he himself "had too much to drink," he "[has] never used methamphetamines."
The politician asked for privacy as he said he planned to spend the next several weeks with his family, though he did not say why he was planning to do that.
