Authorities are still attempting to figure out the reason behind why former NFL player Phillip Adams shot and killed five victims in South Carolina. Two children, aged 5 and 9, were among the dead.
The victims were identified as 70-year-old Dr. Robert Lesslie, his 69-year-old wife Barbara Lesslie, the couple's two grandchildren, and a 39-year-old man named James Lewis who was doing work at the home when the shooting occurred. After killing all five, Adams turned the gun on himself outside the home.
Adams played in the NFL for six seasons, and his father, Alonzo Adams, believes his experiences in football "messed him up." The elder Adams said he felt his son was "a good kid," but that he knew the Lesslie family were "good folks."
"All I can say is we pray for the family," he said.
