The Big Three auto manufacturers announced on Wednesday that they will be shutting their plants down through the end of March, a decision the companies made in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus throughout the country.
Multiple cases of coronavirus have been confirmed at several of the companies' respective plants. The car corporations said they will use the shutdown period to clean and sanitize their manufacturing equipment.
The companies had been urged to cease production by union leaders. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, meanwhile, had already issued an executive order closing numerous types of businesses throughout the state.
