Colton Underwood, a former star of ABC's "The Bachelor," came out as gay during a "Good Morning America" interview on Wednesday.
Underwood was known for claiming to be a virgin during the show.
"I've ran from myself for a long time and I've hated myself for a long time," Underwood said on the ABC morning show. "I'm gay."
Underwood has previously said that he was raised Catholic and is a Christian.
The former NFL player said that he had struggled with suicidal thoughts, but is now the "happiest and healthiest" he has ever been. Underwood also expressed remorse for the "pain and emotional stress I caused" during his relationship with co-star Cassie Randolph.
"I wish it wouldn't have happened the way it did," Underwood said. "I wish that I would have been courageous enough to fix myself before I broke anybody else."
