A day after broadcasting legend Rush Limbaugh died from stage four lung cancer, former U.S. Senator and Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole announced he has been diagnosed with the same disease.
The former senator is a World War II veteran who suffered serious wounds while serving in Italy. Shot by German machine gun fire in the back and arm, he was hospitalized for months and faced a grueling recovery process. Dole was left with limited mobility in his right arm, something he sought to shroud by consistently holding a pen in his right hand.
Dole is 97 years old.
