Former United Auto Workers President Gary Jones was charged Thursday with conspiracy to embezzle more than $1 million in union funds.

Federal prosecutors said that Jones, who was commissioned to lead the UAW in June 2018 before abruptly resigning in November last year, is alleged to have conspired with a group of senior UAW leaders to embezzle more than $1 million to spend on private villas, liquor, and other luxuries, according to documents filed with a Michigan federal court.

Jones is now the 14th person charged in the alleged misconduct, which spanned from 2010 to September 2019. The federal probe, made public in July 2017, has seen more than a dozen convictions, including two former UAW vice presidents.
