French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated the apparent election of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden by taking a thinly veiled shot at President Trump, declaring the results offered an opportunity to "make our planet great again."
While playing off Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan, Macron was also voicing his support of Biden's promise to reenter the Paris Climate Agreement.
"It is proof that we had to stand firm against all headwinds," Macron said. "'Make our planet great again' is a possibility, not just in words but also in deed."
Though the Trump administration filed its intent to withdraw from the accords almost exactly a year ago, the details of the original agreement required a one-year waiting period before it became official on November 4 of this year, just one day after the presidential election.
Macron praised Biden for his promise to "invest $2 trillion" in order to get the United States "off planet-warming fossil fuels."
