A new campground and RV park for gay men opening in Michigan is under fire for its policy that prohibits women who identify as men from staying at the private, members-only park.
"Camp Boomerang is a private, membership-only rv park/campground that allows only ‘guys,'" co-founder Bryan Quinn wrote in a Facebook post.
Quinn went on to specify that a "guy" is "a person with a penis" who "presents himself as male and has a state-issued ID that says ‘male.'"
Quinn acknowledged that the policy may be controversial, but defended the camp's right to make such a decision as a "private, membership-only" organization.
"It is our hope that everyone who visits Camp Boomerang enjoys a comfortable, safe, non-confrontational environment going forward," he continued.
Camp Boomerang's policy has brought social media backlash, including an effort to boycott the park.
In the Facebook group Queer Toronto, user Kent Keilback urged a boycott against the establishment "for their prejudicial policies against Our Trans Brothers. Hate is hate. Period."
