In the midst of allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, Georgia will carry out a manual hand recount of ballots.
"This will help build confidence. It will be an audit, a recount, and a recanvas all at once," said Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. "It will be a heavy lift."
According to Raffensperger, 97 counties in Georgia have sent final numbers to the state so far and the state will work with county officials to carry out the recount before the November 20 deadline.
"Every legal vote will count. They executed their responsibilities and they did their job," said Raffensperger. "This is a process. It is a process defined by law."
David Shafer, Georgia's GOP chief, claims there was a lack of transparency in Fulton County.
"Let me repeat. Fulton County elections officials told the media and our observers that they were shutting down the tabulation center at State Farm Arena at 10:30 p.m. on election night only to continue counting ballots in secret until 1:00 a.m.," Shafer said. "No one disputes that Fulton County elections officials falsely announced that the counting of ballots would stop at 10:30 p.m. No one disputes that Fulton County elected officials unlawfully resumed the counting of ballots after our observers left the center."
The General Services Administration has yet to call the race.
