A GoFundMe account established for the two Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies who were ambushed and shot while sitting in their patrol car in Compton Saturday has raised more than $500,000 in two days.
The fundraiser was organized by LASD's Detective Keegan McInnis and aims to raise $750,000. More than 7,500 people have donated.
"Both Deputies will require multiple surgeries and have a long road to recovery ahead of them," McInnis said on the donation page. "We are asking for our brothers and sisters in our communities as well as our brothers and sisters in law enforcement to come together and help us raise money to ensure their needs and the needs of their families are taken care of."
McInnis said the effort will partner with their local union and its relief fund. Doing so allows 100% of the funds raised to go directly to the critically wounded officers.
