Following the controversial decision by online streaming service HBO Max to pull the Civil War epic "Gone With the Wind" due to its racial insensitivity, people rushed to purchase hard copies of the original film, rocketing it to the top spot on Amazon.

HBO Max announced that due to the "ethnic and racial prejudices" depicted in the movie, the company was temporarily suspending access to it until it could offer "proper historical context" additions to it.

By early Wednesday morning, Americans had made the 1939 classic the top selling film on Amazon, with both DVDs and Blu-ray discs of the original sold out.

Copies of the movie are still available on eBay. Amazon has not yet altered the version available for rent on its platform.
