Republican Senator Ben Sasse slammed President Trump in a conference call with constituents earlier this week.
Conference call full audio:
"There are definitely places where we agree," Sasse said. "But there are obviously a lot of places where he and I differ, as well, and these aren't just mere policy issues."
Sasse said Trump has "careened from curb to curb" on dealing with the coronavirus," "kisses dictators' butts," "regularly sells out [U.S.] allies," "spends like a drunken sailor," "mocks evangelicals behind closed doors," and has "flirted with white supremacists." Sasse also mentioned "the way [Trump] mistreats women."
Sasse spokesman James Wegmann confirmed the comments.
Trump called "Little Ben Sasse" the "least effective of our 53 Republican senators, and a person who truly doesn't have what it takes to be great."
"[Sasse] was as nice as a RINO can be until he recently won the Republican Nomination to run for a second term," Trump said. "Then he went back to his rather stupid and obnoxious ways."
RINO stands for "Republican in name only."
Trump said "Little Ben" is a "liability to the Republican Party" and an "embarrassment" to Nebraska.
