Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has sent a message to disaffected and dissatisfied citizens and business owners around the country: the Sunshine State is open for business.
In a speech advertising his proposed budget for the upcoming year, DeSantis favorably compared the business climate in his state to the far more rigid environment in many others just now beginning to loosen stay-at-home orders and economic restrictions imposed throughout the pandemic.
"If you work in a restaurant, we have your back," DeSantis said. "If you're a hairstylist, we protect your right to earn a living. And if you are a parent, we ensure your kids have the right to attend school in person. Lockdowns do not work. School closures have been disastrous yet even today we see across our country businesses shuttered, lives ruined, and schools closed."
DeSantis had previously announced last fall that the state of Florida would not be shutting down its economy again for any reason.
