The government recently ordered the tech giant Google to ensure that its employees have assurance that they can freely speak in the workplace without fear of retaliation.

The ruling from the National Labor Relations Board ordered Google to tell current employees that they are free to speak to media about topics like workplace diversity and compensation, without having to ask for permission, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The rule is expected to go into effect after an appeal period.
