Homicides spike 250% in L.A. during riots, protests

As protests and riots swept the Los Angeles in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis, the number of homicides in the metropolis jumped 250% over the prior week, according to statistics released by the Los Angeles Police Department.

For the week of May 31-June 6, the number of people shot also increased by 56%.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti recently announced the LAPD's budget will be cut by up to $150 million, with money redirected toward communities that are largely comprised of minorities.
