The House of Representatives voted almost entirely along party lines Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump for obstruction of Congress and abuse of power related to his dealings with Ukraine. Trump becomes just the third U.S. president to be impeached.
Even with four defections, Democrats had enough of a majority to pass the votes. No Republicans voted to impeach the president on either count.
The articles of impeachment now go to the Republican-controlled Senate for trial, where acquittal is all but certain.
While the House was debating and voting on impeachment, Trump was staging a rally in Michigan, where he remained defiant, saying, "It doesn't really feel like we're being impeached. The country is doing better than ever before. We did nothing wrong."
