At least 37 Christians have been killed in August alone as the southern part of Kaduna State in Nigeria continues to see ongoing violence directed against Christians. At least seven separate attacks carried out by Fulani militants have led to the large death toll.
The most aggressive of the attacks came on August 7 and 8, when militants attacked the southern part of the state, killing 33 and displacing hundreds of others. The additional four deaths occurred on August 17 when a car carrying the victims was attacked. The driver of the vehicle was taken captive.
The government of Kaduna State has been slow to take action, due to lockdowns imposed over COVID-19 concerns and a reported sympathy towards the Fulani herdsmen carrying out the attacks.
