Instagram announced this week a new messaging feature that allows users to communicate with each other through disappearing photos.

The new feature, called “Threads,” will have its own dedicated app apart from Instagram itself and will draw from a user’s “Close Friends” list.

The app will also feature “Status,” which lets users share what they are up to outside of a conversation.

Some have compared Instagram’s new service to the app Snapchat.
