High above Earth aboard the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy captured stunning images of Hurricane Laura as it swept across the Southern United States.
Hurricane Laura pummeled the Gulf Coast for hours with fierce winds and relentless rains as it invaded the shores along the Louisiana-Texas border early Thursday.
The National Hurricane Center said the tropical storm reached wind speeds up to 150 mph at around 2 a.m. ET near the 400-person community of Cameron, which is approximately 30 miles east of the Texas border.
Hurricane Laura strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane Wednesday afternoon, but has since weakened to a Category 2.
