Iran executes journalist who encouraged 2017 protests

Iran executed an journalist Ruhollah Zam, 47, over his encouragement of nationwide economic protests in 2017.

Iranian state media called Zam "the leader of the riots." An Iranian court sentenced Zam to death in June for "corruption on Earth."

Iranian authorities abducted Zam after he was tricked into traveling to Iraq over a year ago. He had been living in Paris. He was one of several people recently seized by Iranian intelligence.
