Israel is seeing a decline in COVID-19 infections in people over the age of 60 following its recent vaccine rollout.
Out of almost 750,000 fully vaccinated, the Israeli Ministry of Health figures show 531 people over 60 tested positive for coronavirus with only a small number of those falling ill. The MoH data shows that infections and illnesses fell consistently from 14 days after receiving the first dose.
Five million doses of the vaccine have been distributed in Israel, which has a population of about nine million. Approximately one million people have received their second dose.
A team of researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Tel-Aviv University, and Technion believe the decline in cases can be linked to the vaccine and not just to lockdowns and other current restrictions.
