The Italian military will be called up to enforce the country's increasingly desperate lockdown as Italy posts higher and higher death tolls from the coronavirus, including a new one-day record of 627 dead.
The country has been the hardest-hit in Europe and just recently passed China in the number of officially recorded deaths. The northern region of the country has been the most hit, with local hospitals becoming overwhelmed by those suffering from COVID-19.
Disease numbers in Italy continue to rise. Nearly 6,000 new cases of the illness were confirmed there yesterday. One nurse said that healthcare workers are "not even counting the dead anymore."
