Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop announced Wednesday morning that surveillance footage makes it "clear" that the gunmen who sparked a massive firefight with police Tuesday "targeted" the Jewish grocery store where they holed up and killed bystanders.

His tweets did not clarify whether the attack was believed to be anti-Semitic in nature.

A police officer, three bystanders, and two suspects all died in the brazen shootout Tuesday which started when an officer approached suspects about a homicide investigation and was shot dead. The gunmen then drove a stolen rental van to another part of the city and engaged police in an hours-long shootout from inside the kosher market where they and three others were eventually found deceased.
