The state legislature of New York has passed a budget agreement that includes a $2.1 billion fund for illegal immigrants in the state. The agreement involves a one-time payment of $15,600 to illegal immigrants who lost their job during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The massive cash expenditure will potentially involve payments to nearly 300,000 individuals in New York.
In order to receive the $15,600 payment, an illegal immigrant needs to prove that they are New York residents whose immigration status prevents them from accessing unemployment benefits.
Illegal immigrants who do not qualify for the $15,600 can still be eligible for a $3,200 payment from state taxpayers.
