Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was denied communion over the weekend by a South Carolina priest because of his pro-abortion views.

Rev. Robert Morey denied Biden, a lifelong Catholic, communion when he attended Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Florence on Sunday.

“Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to former Vice President Joe Biden,” Morey told the South Carolina Morning News. “Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that. Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.”

Biden announced his opposition to the Hyde Amendment earlier this year. The Hyde Amendment would put a ban on federal funding for abortions.
