During an interview with Yahoo News' Dan Klaidman on Tuesday, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was unable to remember the moment former President Barack Obama fired AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin.
After mentioning President Trump's firing of State Department Inspector General Steven Linick last week, Klaidman asked Biden if he would "pledge" not to fire any inspectors general if he was elected president.
Biden replied with a resounding confirmation.
"Yes, yes, yes! Inspector generals [sic] were designed to make government honest. To keep it honest," Biden said.
When reminded of Obama's firing of Gerald Walpin and asked whether it was a mistake, the event eluded Biden's memory.
"I don't recall that," Biden said. "But I tell you what, I don't ever remember [Obama] deciding that somebody being investigated was inappropriate."
? Over the course of his 2020 presidential campaign, Biden has had difficulty remembering key events and details from his former administration.
