In a promising sign for a campaign that has lately been spiraling downward, Joe Biden is up 20 points in a new South Carolina poll, placing him at the head of the pack in a state he desperately needs to win.

The Monmouth University poll has Biden commanding 32 percent of South Carolina voters, the highest numbers he has shown in weeks. Bernie Sanders had only half as many voters at 16 percent.

The numbers come shortly after Biden was endorsed by Rep. Jim Clyburn, a storied Democratic politician from South Carolina currently serving as the majority whip in the House of Representatives.

South Carolina will hold its primaries on Saturday. The state is expected to be a make-or-break contest for the Biden campaign after Biden's dismal showings in Iowa and New Hampshire.
