White House climate czar John Kerry said on Wednesday that oil and gas workers who have lost their jobs as a result of President Biden's climate policies should learn to manufacture solar panels.
Biden signed executive orders on Tuesday aimed at moving away from coal, oil, and natural gas as energy sources.
When asked what workers who lost their jobs as a result of the policies should do, Kerry, the U.S. special presidential envoy for climate, said they should pursue jobs in the renewable energy sector.
"The president of the United States has expressed in every comment he has made about climate the need to grow the new jobs that pay better, that are cleaner," Kerry said. "What President Biden wants to do is make sure those folks have better choices, that they have alternatives, that they can be the people to go to work to make the solar panels."
Kerry said that jobs in the clean energy sector had been growing before the pandemic.
"The same people can do those jobs," Kerry said.
