Singer John Legend criticized Felicity Huffman’s sentence of 14 days in prison, saying “no one in our nation will benefit.”

Huffman was sentenced to 14 days in prison, a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service, and one year supervised release for her role in a college admission cheating scheme.

Legend went after the sentencing on Twitter on Saturday night, saying that Americans have become desensitized to prison sentences.

“Prisons and jails are not the answer to every bad thing everyone does, but we’ve come to use them to address nearly every societal ill,” he said.

Legend said he understands when people get frustrated over a perceived disparity in sentencing among socioeconomic and racial groups.

“We should level down, not up,” he wrote.
