A federal judge this week upheld Harvard University’s controversial admissions policy that allows the university to consider race as a factor when deciding which students it admits.

The judge rejected a lawsuit by the advocacy group Students for Fair Admissions, an organization that argued Harvard’s policy was discriminatory against Asian-Americans.

The judge claimed that “race-conscious admissions” were necessary to ensure a diverse student body at the Ivy League university.
