With just days left before former President Donald Trump's unprecedented second impeachment trial, all five lawyers on his defense team have resigned. According to reports, the departures were amicably and mutually decided by both Trump and the attorneys themselves.
Butch Bowers, Deborah Barbier, Josh Howard, Johnny Gasser, and Greg Harris had all been members of the Trump defense team before the abrupt announcement Saturday that all were out. Some Republican strategists saw it as a money-saving move by the former president, given that 45 Senate Republicans have already gone on record as believing the entire trial is unconstitutional since Trump is no longer in office.
According to a handful of reports, the professional sticking point between Trump and his legal team may have been the former president's desire to use the trial to focus on claims that voter fraud tipped the election. The lawyers allegedly told Trump they would not do that, at which point the parties formally split.
