Kamala Harris drops out of presidential race

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) is dropping out of the presidential race, hours after her campaign canceled a New York City fundraiser expected to bring in a number of wealthy donors.

Harris' team originally said the fundraiser was canceled due to a "personal matter" and offered no further explanation.

Harris closed down her New Hampshire campaign operations in November and had fired dozens of staffers from campaign headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, weeks earlier. Her outfit had the highest cash burn rate of any candidate‘s by the end of the third quarter, spending 122.9 percent of all donations.
