The top Kurdish commander spoke of Turkeys’ assault on northern Syria in light of the U.S. pullout, saying it will be “the biggest ethnic cleansing operation in the 21st century, and it’s happening in front of the American army’s eyes.”

In an exclusive interview with NBC’s Richard Engel, General Mazlum Kobane expressed frustration after the removal of U.S. military forces in northern Syria.

“This agreement will lead to the killing of millions of Kurds, and the expulsion of millions of Kurds from their lands. It will be the biggest ethnic cleansing operation in the 21st century, and it’s happening right in front of the American army’s eyes.”

“America has full responsibility for what is happening now because we trusted them for five years in the continuing war against ISIS,” Kobane said. “But now there is ethnic cleansing. If they wanted, they would stop it.”
