Fans of the classic cartoon franchise Looney Tunes may be slightly disappointed by the reboot currently airing on HBO Max. Peter Browngardt, the executive producer, has confirmed that both Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd will be losing their weapons.

The cartoons will continue to feature Acme-inspired hijinks.

"We're not doing guns," Browngardt told The New York Times. "But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in."

Showrunners said they felt challenged by modern movements against bullying and gun violence, given that Looney Tunes always involved two conflicting characters who were sometimes violent.

In place of his shotgun, which never seemed to find its mark, Elmer Fudd will reportedly be carrying a scythe to chase Bugs Bunny.

The Looney Tunes reboot debuted in May.
