Residents of Winter, Wisconsin, are celebrating that Abby Ladwig, a 3-year-old girl who disappeared into the woods, was found alive.
Several hundred volunteers, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, had descended upon the small Wisconsin town to assist in the search.
Sawyer County Sheriff's officers say the little girl was located about 24 hours after her disappearance last week. She was found after the family dog, Peanut, who had been with her overnight, came running out of the woods. Searchers immediately shifted their search area to the site where the dog had exited, and Ladwig was found shortly thereafter.
The department posted the news on its Facebook page:
After expressing relief that Ladwig had been located, Pat Sanchez, a coordinator of Sawyer County Search and Rescue, thanked all the rescuers who had come to assist the effort.
"Thank you to all responders, volunteers who came out to search for Abby and the donations of food and water," Sanchez said. "It's amazing how in times of need, we all come together for such an amazing outcome."
