Nearly a full week has gone by since convicted felon Darius Sessoms fatally shot 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant while the young boy was riding his bike and major news networks have remained silent on the atrocity.
The blackout of coverage from the mainstream media has induced outrage on social media and by Wednesday evening, the hashtag #SayHisName was trending on Twitter.
Early Sunday evening, Sessoms rushed Cannon while the 5-year-old was riding his bike in front of his father's house, put a gun to his head, and pulled the trigger before fleeing to his home next door.
Sessoms later drove away in a 2019 Toyota Corolla, but was apprehended by U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Task Force and charged with first-degree murder.
Fox News is the only mainstream outlet in the U.S. that has covered Cannon's gruesome murder. A search for "Cannon Hinnant" produced zero results on the websites of ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, New York Times, the Washington Post, TIME, or Newsweek.
International outlets such as the Sun, Daily Mail, and the Independent have reported on the 5-year-old's murder.
Hinnant's funeral will be held Thursday night, and a candlelight vigil is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. in front of the Wilson County Courthouse.
