Police in Alaska arrested a man in connection with a murder they found brutally depicted on a camera SD card.

The memory card had been found on the street with a label that explicitly referred to a “homicide” taking place at a hotel. Police reviewing the card found video footage and photos of a woman being bound and strangled. Authorities believe the woman in the footage is the same one whose body was located on a nearby highway a few days after the memory card was discovered.

Police determined that the crime took place in Anchorage and that the suspect, Brian Smith, was involved. During the investigation, detectives identified an accent from the man in the videos and recalled a prior investigation involving Smith, who is a native of South Africa.

They arrested Smith on first-degree murder charges.
