[WARNING: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC VIDEOS BELOW]
A gruesome scene played out in front of a journalist Saturday night when a man was savagely beaten to near-death and then robbed by a mob of rioters for trying to defend a shop.
Video of the assault, shot by Blaze TV's Elijah Schaffer, is graphic and very difficult to watch. It shows the man apparently attempting to defend a store from looters with a sword. Vastly outnumbered, the man was quickly overwhelmed and beaten mercilessly with large rocks, skateboards, fists, and feet. The attackers then rifled through his pockets.
Schaffer said he called for an ambulance as the man laid motionless on the ground bleeding profusely.
In a subsequent tweet, Schaffer reported that some of the attackers and bystanders laughed at the victim while others continued looting surrounding stores while he "bled out" on the ground.
The journalist then posted the "full unedited video" showing the entire attack (bottom video):
Remarkably, the man did not immediately die from the attack as he was later pictured sitting upright, being tended to by volunteer medics in front of a number of onlookers.
In his live coverage, Schaffer noted the lack of police presence and "absolute lawlessness" taking place on the city's streets.
Update: Dallas News reporter Cassandra Jaramillo reports that the victim is "in bad shape, but hanging on":
"DPD source tells me man who was seen getting attacked in a graphic viral video by a group of protesters is in bad shape, but hanging on. His body was literally twisted from getting stomped on and kicked. Happened near House of Blues. Working to get more info."
