A spokesman for Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger confirmed on Wednesday that the military leader has ordered all Confederate-related paraphernalia to be removed from Marine Corps installations.

A document tweeted by military analyst B.A. Friedman showed that the commandant did not say by when all Confederate symbols needed to be removed, according to Task & Purpose. Friedman's account has been made private.

"Last week, the Commandant of the Marine Corps directed specific tasks be reviewed or addressed by Headquarters Marine Corps staff," Maj. Eric Flanagan, Berger's spokesman, said in an email. "Many of the tasks were published on Twitter Friday. Other tasks not published previously are mostly administrative matters."
