Marvel Comics has unveiled its first LGBT Captain American.

The character, named Aaron Fischer, is part of a limited series titled "The United States of Captain America," which follows Steve Rogers teaming up with other Captain America heroes across the country. The series is written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Dale Eaglesham.

Fischer was described by the studio as "the Captain America of the Railways — a fearless teen who stepped up to protect fellow runaways and the unhoused." He is also a gay teen.

"Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders and everyday folks pushing for a better life," said writer Joshua Trujillo, who authored the issue introducing Fischer. "He stands for the oppressed and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers and helps inspire the next generation of heroes."

The other Captains in the series will be introduced by the franchise at a later date.
