Massachusetts State Police trooper George D'Amelio helped his wife deliver their child on the side of a New Hampshire highway last month after the couple could not make it to the hospital in time.
D'Amelio was working in Massachusetts when his wife, Christine, called to say she was going into labor. He left work, and by the time he reached his home, found she was in active labor. The two quickly got into their own vehicle and started the trip to a hospital in New Hampshire.
The couple could not make it to the hospital before the baby boy was ready to be born. D'Amelio pulled the vehicle over on the side of a busy highway and helped his wife deliver the child.
New Hampshire State Police and the local fire department assisted with the delivery. The couple named their son Jackson.
