The toy giant Mattel launched a line of “gender inclusive” dolls this week meant to cater to children who want toys untouched by gender norms — or parents who want them for their kids.

The toys will come with a variety of clothing options and wigs meant to blur the line between boys and girls. Mattel is the first major toy manufacturer to produce explicitly gender-neutral toys.

In the past, the corporation has come under sustained criticism for its famous Barbie doll, with activists claiming the doll promoted unrealistic beauty standards.
