Louisiana McDonald's franchise owner Rikesh Patel staffed the corporation's McRig food truck to serve the residents of Lake Charles for six days straight in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Laura last month.
The super-size restaurant-on-wheels gave away 10,000 meals consisting of cheeseburgers, fries, and bottled water starting in late August. Patel, who owns 25 McDonald's restaurants in and around Lake Charles, knew he had to do something when he saw the devastation Laura left.
"Pictures don't do it justice," he told CNN about the storm's destruction. "It's so much worse than what you're seeing on social media."
He asked McDonald's corporation to help out, prompting it to send the McRig. Patel said his employees who worked the truck made the vision of the restaurant chain's founder, Ray Kroc, a reality.
