Chicago's epidemic of gun violence continues, with 3,132 people shot in the city from the start of the year through September 28, The Chicago Tribune reports.
The number of shootings in 2019 was a little more than 2,000.
This past weekend, 50 people were hit by gunfire in Chicago, and at least eight of those people have died. Throughout much of 2020, dozens of people have been shot in the city every weekend.
Meanwhile, St. Louis has had 194 homicides for the year and is on pace to reach its highest number in 50 years.
New York City's 1,004 shootings through August 30 also dwarf the city's total of 537 as of the same date in 2019.
